Day 1
All aboard the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad for a historic steam train ride to the mining town of Silverton. The 42-mile trip through breathtaking wilderness offers photo opportunities and sights you won’t see from the road. Enjoy lunch in Silverton before returning by train or coach bus to Durango, tour the Railroad Museum after returning to the Depot, freshen up before strolling historic Downtown Durango and enjoy dinner at one of our microbreweries or local restaurants. Before you settle in for the evening, stop by the Diamond Belle Saloon for ragtime music.
Day 2
Situated in the hills 35 miles west of Durango, Mesa Verde Country is the archeological center of America. Mesa Verde National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers visitors an unforgettable opportunity to see and experience the life of the ancient Ancestral Puebloans. Visit the best-preserved Anasazi Indian cliff dwellings with over 4,000 ruin sites and 600 cliff dwellings. On your way back to Durango enjoy dinner at the Kennebec Café.
Day 3
Enjoy the beauty of the area with some adventure! Take a raft trip on the Animas River, horseback ride in the mountains, jeep ride to old mining towns, bike ride or stroll on the Animas River Trail (you can even rent an electric bike from Roll eBike!). In the afternoon, enjoy a self-guided walking tour of Historic Downtown Durango including any of our local galleries. In the evening, sing-along under the stars at the Bar D Wranglers Chuckwagon dinner and western show.
Day 4
On your last day in Durango, there’s still so much to do! Choose from something you discovered during your stay or try one of our recommendations: rent a pontoon boat at Vallecito Lake, hike on the Colorado Trail, experience our local agriculture with a tour of James Ranch, visit the Powerhouse Science Center or check out the Animas Museum.
