Built in 1887 the historic Strater Hotel (Historic Hotel of America Member) is one of the West’s iconic hotels and a prominent downtown Durango, Colorado landmark located two blocks north of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, one hour from the Mesa Verde National Park, several hours from the Four Corners Monument, and deep in the heart of the rugged San Juan Mountains where mineral hot springs abound. The Strater Hotel is adorned with beautiful handcrafted woodwork, period wallpaper, and the largest collection of American Victorian walnut antiques which are used to decorate the hotel and guestrooms. The Strater Hotel invites you to experience the best of the Old West and Durango.
Area Activities
When staying at the Strater Hotel, guests experience the Old West while just steps away from eclectic dining, shopping, and many outdoor activities including hiking, skiing, biking, rafting, jeeping, hot springs, and much more. There are plenty of activities in the area for everyone, no matter what age and ability.
Hotel Activities
However, once you’re settled in at the Strater you may not want to go anywhere with all the activities happening at the hotel. Take a history tour, "Belly up at the Belle" with daily live music in the Diamond Belle Saloon and enjoy handcrafted cocktail and appetizers in The Office Spiritorium, or relax in our casual steak and seafood restaurant the Mahogany Grille.
Special Events
For those wishing to create a memorable event for any occasion, please don’t hesitate to talk with our Strater Catering & Events staff –they will give you and your guests a fabulous experience to remember (weddings, business meetings, special events).
