The overreaching goal of the Destination Advancement Grant is to promote La Plata County as a socially and environmentally sustainable destination to live and visit.
The grant aims to lessen the environmental impact of our businesses and non-profits, supporting Visit Durango’s and other governmental initiatives and developing new tourism businesses that promote a triple-bottom-line approach.
To responsibly utilize the lodger's tax, grant projects should aim to enhance both the visitor and resident experience while promoting climate resiliency in La Plata County.
Applications for the Destination Advancement Grant are welcomed from both established and emerging businesses and non-profits in La Plata County that align with the grant's goals. They should demonstrate a clear commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility in their business operations and development plans.
Additionally, organizations should exhibit a strong intention to contribute positively to the county's tourism sector, fostering an environment that attracts visitors while being mindful of local residents and the area's natural resources.
The grant is funded by the lodger’s tax collected from the City of Durango and La Plata County.
